Juneteens

Do you remember being 14?

Yep, I was once a 14 year old. That's about the time my family got settled in Orem.

The "pumpkin car" (a copper/orange station wagon) and an old VW beetle.

The shrank in the livingroom with a marble statue of the David.

A round wooden glass-topped coffee table in the center of the room where we all knelt together for morning and evening family prayers. Stacks of magazines on the shelf just under that glass top. A brown carpet from Italy under the table.

Decopaged prints of Carl Spitzweg art hung on the wall.

Plates from Spain of Don Quixote and his sidekick Sancho Panza.

Tiles mounted on the wall bearing coats of arms for the cities in Germany that we loved.

Open the shrank's center doors and turn on the reel-to-reel tapes to hear Bill Cosby or the Association.

I remember 14.
